Just outside Montepulciano lies the wonderful oasis Fattoria San Martino with a good spirit and full of creativity. The Dutch fashion designer Karin Lijftogt has renovated and furnished the cottage in the hills in her very own style. New York meets Tuscany. In the four rooms, raw walls alternate with warm earth tones, the lamps are self-designed, made of punched paper, folded into stars or placed very close to the floor. The bed linen is printed with large bonmots. The floors of waxed, old wood provide a nice contrast of warmth.
In the perfect modern Fattoria, one would like to stay forever, because one feels like being perfectly cared for in a retreat. From organic products to the enthusiastic hostess and her husband Antonio Giordini, who manages the site. Whether pasta, honey or oil, the two do everything themselves, growing medicinal herbs, cereals, fruit and even saffron. For breakfast they serve fresh organic products, in the evening they cook on request and eat in the large fireplace room with its high concrete walls and under stubbornly beautiful glass chandeliers.
Most of the energy is obtained from the sun and wood. The pool is chlorine-free and the idyllic location makes it an ideal starting point. From the large garden you can look over the hills to Montepulciano. And if you want to be active: in Karin Lijftogt’s studio, goldsmith, sewing and art courses are offered.
